Prof. Aleksei Aksimentiev, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign: Engineering synthetic nanostructures for precision molecular transport Precision displacement of individual biomolecules is commonly required for efficient operation of nanoscale biomedical systems but is challenging to realize in practice because of stochastic fluctuations that dominate at the nanoscale. This lecture will describe several systems where precision transport of biomolecules was realized using unconventional approaches. The topics covered will include a defect-driven nanoscale delivery systems, a protein sequencing platform and highly efficient, self-assembled water transport channels. The lecture will highlight the role of microscopic simulations in designing and exploring the nanoscale transport systems.
